Bu kitap, çatışmaların anlaşılması ve dönüştürülmesine katkı sağlamak, akademik çalışmalar için bir başvuru kaynağı sunmak amacıyla on bölüm olarak hazırlandı. Barış ve çatışma çalışmalarına genel bakış ile başlayan kitap; çatışma kavramı ve sınıflandırılması, çatışma nedenlerinin ve bunları açıklayan kuramların incelenmesi, çatışma davranışı olarak şiddetin tartışılması, başlama, tırmanma ve yumuşama dahil çatışma dinamiklerinin irdelenmesi, çatışma analizinin yöntemleri, araçları ve kılavuzlarının gözden geçirilmesi ile devam etmektedir. Kavramsal ve kuramsal tartışmaları Suriye İç Savaşını konu edinen çatışma analizi örnek vaka çalışması takip etmektedir. Kitap, barış kavramı, çatışma yönetimi ve çözümü uygulamaları ile barış ve uluslararası toplum üzerine inceleme ve değerlendirmelerin yer aldığı bölümlerle tamamlanmaktadır. Kitabın yazarı Oktay Bingöl, Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri’nden 2011 yılında tuğgeneral rütbesinde emekli olmuştur. Doktorasını uluslararası ilişkiler dalında yapmış ve aynı dalda Doçentliğini almıştır. İstanbul Arel Üniversitesi öğretim üyesi ve Üniversitenin Uluslararası Stratejik Araştırmalar Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi Müdürü olarak, güvenlik, çatışma-barış ve uluslararası ilişkiler konularında lisans ve lisansüstü dersler vermekte, akademik araştırmalar yapmaktadır. Oktay Bingöl Ankara’da konuşlu Merkez Strateji Enstitüsü Başkanlığını da yürütmektedir. Yazarın çalışma alanları kapsamında çeşitli kitapları, makaleleri ve diğer yayınları bulunmaktadır. Editörleri arasında yer aldığı “Güvenlik Çalışmaları-I: Kuramsal Yaklaşımlar” ve Güvenlik Çalışmaları-II: Güvenlik Sektörleri ve Sorunları” Hiper Yayın-Arel Üniversitesi Yayınları olarak çıkmıştır.
